What to Expect From Your Family Photography Session

Your family session will be relaxed, enjoyable and completely stress-free. I’ll gently guide you throughout, while leaving space for natural interaction, laughter and those little moments that can’t be planned.

My purpose-built studio comfortably accommodates up to six people, or up to eight when children are involved, creating a warm environment where everyone can settle in and be themselves.

Parents, children, grandparents and even your furry four-legged family members are all welcome - because your family story isn’t complete without them.

The answers to your questions

Who can be included in our family session?

Grandparents, siblings, extended family and even dogs are all very welcome! Just bear in mind my studio will comfortably accomodate groups of up to 6, or 8 if young children are involved.

What should we wear for our family photography session?

The most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable and like themselves. In general, simple clothing works best — soft, neutral tones and subtle patterns photograph beautifully, while very bright colours, bold stripes, large logos and slogans can distract from faces and quickly date your images. Coordinating your outfits in complementary colours (rather than matching exactly) creates a timeless, harmonious look, and classic combinations such as denim with white tops always work well. With children you can absolutely include a pop of colour for a more playful feel, but keeping the overall look balanced will help your family connection remain the true focus of the photographs. I’m always happy to offer personal outfit advice before your session.

How long does the session last?

I never rush family sessions. Most last around 60–90 minutes, but everything is relaxed and child-led.

What if my children don’t want to cooperate?

That’s completely normal - and it’s actually where my experience really comes into play. I work at your children’s pace, keeping things relaxed and playful, and allowing space for real expressions and natural interaction. Some of the most beautiful images come from those in-between moments.

How far in advance should we book our family session?

Weekends and school holiday slots fill quickly, so I recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred date.
