If you’ve been looking into newborn photography, you’ve probably seen lots of beautifully “perfect” images online – sleepy babies curled up, tiny hands tucked just so, everything calm and peaceful.
And while those images are lovely, I want to gently let you in on a little truth…
Behind every “perfect” newborn photo is a real baby, doing very real baby things.
It’s so easy to scroll through galleries and assume that every baby sleeps the whole time, settles instantly, and drifts from pose to pose without a fuss. But in reality? Babies wriggle. They stretch. They feed. They sometimes cry. They sometimes vomit. They may frequently fill their nappy. And that’s completely, beautifully normal. Every baby is different, and no two sessions are ever the same – and that’s exactly how it should be. One of the biggest worries I hear from parents is: “What if my baby doesn’t settle?” “What if they stay awake the whole time?” Please don’t worry. Your baby doesn’t need to perform for their session. They don’t need to be extra sleepy or extra settled. They just need to be themselves. With nearly two decades of experience as a newborn photographer covering Coventry and Warwickshire, I’ve learned that the most important thing in any session isn’t achieving a particular pose… …it’s your baby’s comfort and safety. I will never force a baby into a position they’re not happy in. If they resist something, we simply change direction. Sessions are completely baby-led, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and settling. There’s no rush, no pressure, and no expectation for your baby to fit into a mould. In my experience, the images parents fall in love with the most are rarely the ones that were “planned”. They’re the little moments in between: A tiny hand wrapped around your finger. A big stretch after a feed. Wide, curious eyes taking everything in. That peaceful cuddle in your arms. Those are the moments that tell your baby’s story. Those are the images that mean the most years down the line. My style has always been natural and relaxed. I don’t focus on heavily posed setups – instead, I create a mix of gently guided and natural images that reflect your baby just as they are in those early days. Whether your baby sleeps deeply or prefers to stay awake and take it all in, we work with them, not against them. Because there is no one version of “perfect”. If this is your first baby and you’re feeling unsure, please know this: You don’t need to bring a “perfect” baby to your session. You just need to bring your baby.I’ll take care of the rest. If you’re looking for calm, baby-led newborn photography in Coventry or Warwickshire, I’d love to welcome you into my cosy studio. With nearly 20 years of experience, my sessions are designed to be relaxed, unhurried, and completely centred around your baby.
