Katie - Can you tell me a bit about your involvement with Tot's Play Coventry?

I joined Tots play with my daughter Hannah when she was 10 weeks old on the baby development course. We both really enjoyed it and learned lots about massage, yoga, sign language and much much more, which not only enabled us to spend one on one time together during classes but also helped us bond at home. Laura was an excellent class leader and made us feel instantly welcome and calmed my nerves about getting out and about after having a baby. I also made a group of friends that I see regularly and who will now be friends for life. I still go to classes with Hannah who is now 2 and a half, because of our love for the classes and seeing what an impact they had on the children and in particular new parents, I decided that instead of returning to teaching I would also become a class leader. I have just started running my own classes in Earlsdon and they have been incredibly popular- I can't wait to bring the Tots Play fun to even more families.

Laura - When did you set up Tots Play Coventry and why did you decide to go into this line of work?

I started Tots Play in October 2016. I was looking for a job that would work around my young family and utilise my skills.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I really enjoy working with children, but also getting to know their parents! I have made some great friends over the years. I also love a good sing song!

Are qualifications required in your line of work?

Experience of working with children and the public is preferable, but all training is provided by Tots Play. I have 4 children and a Early Years Practitioner qualification, so was well prepared. I was a Licensed House Manager in a former life; you have to be very self-motivated to be self-employed.

Can you tell us a little more about what Tots Play Coventry does?

Our classes offer a little bit of everything! We provide an introduction to Baby Yoga, Baby Sign Language, Sensory Play, Baby Massage, Music, Bubbles and lots more!

What age ranges do your classes/events cover?

We have 4 different age group classes, ranging from Birth, right up to 4 yrs.

What are the benefits of a Tots Play Coventry class/event and why should parents consider it for their little one?

We are able to provide all of your baby & toddler class needs in one! We operate a multi-activity play programme, in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment.

Are the classes/events suitable for all, including babies or children who may have a health condition?

Yes, we always strive to maintain Inclusive Practice in all of our classes. Activities can always be adapted accordingly.

Can you recall anything funny that has happened during one of your classes/events?

During our Sign Language sections, i wear a jazzy, light up glove ( just for my own enjoyment really!). Recently, one of my toddlers recognised the Signing music playing; they sat down, took their sock off, placed it over their hand and proceeded to sign to the song. I LOVED this moment.
